Join Captain Long Legs (aka Michael Loader) for a swashbuckling, high seas escapade at the Kilver-ibean with treasure hunting, learning the history and geography of the Pirate World, working as a team to devise, create and perform a piece of Musical Theatre, walking the plank on the Low Ropes (with a hard hat), charting and mapping your adventures in the Captain’s Log and mastering the skills of your own Kayak!
This exciting and popular course for key stage 2 pupils will be exploring curriculum links including History, Geography, Art, English, Drama and Music.
We will be exploring the romantic Pirates of Old, Errol Flynn, the caricatures of cartoon, Captain Pugwash and Hook, to the very real and menacing sea-faring criminals of today, eg Somalia through researching their lives, laws, legends and legacies.
We will analyse accounts and stories to distinguish the difference between truth and legend, re-assessing the lives of famous historic figures, eg Captain Morgan and Bristol born Blackbeard, whilst learning nautical phrases and sayings to enliven our musical theatre script.
Michael Loader’s courses are child-centred, active, fun and engaging, with an emphasis on learning through creative activities. This course offers a variety of ways into the subject, including reading and writing, the practical and theoretical, discussion and questioning, individual and group tasks, being inside and out, using the powers of the imagination as well as the skills of your body and mind.
